There have been quite a few changes this year involving the Big Red Band.  All good!!!  In the past years, the band never had more than 70 people.  This year 92 people decorated the marching field.  Speaking of marching.... for the first time in eighty years the band received a first division but missed regionals by a tenth of a point!  This year's band was under the field direction of Lori Wyrick, head drum major, and Terry McMahan, assistant drum major, and Billy Goff, director.
A lot of hard work, time, and planning goes into the making of the "Big Red Band."  Even though school didn't start until September, band started practicing August tenth from six o'clock to nine.
About sixty were present at practices because of late summer vacations and the fact that most of the eighth grade students didn't know they had practice.
This year's band may be the largest Coahoma has ever had.  There are ninety-eight students all together: twenty-nine juniors and seniors and the rest are sophomores, freshmen, and eighth graders.
This year the eighth graders needed to be moved up because the junior high band would have been too large.  "It's hard to work in the eighth graders this year because of different schedules.  They worked very hard, but they still have a long way to go."  said Mr. Goff, the band's director.  "They have the potential to be a great bad."
